Recently evaluated 4 leading cloud databases for a project I am involved in.

  1. AWS Aurora Postgres
  2. AWS Aurora MySQL
  3. AWS Redshift
  4. Snowflake
  5. Oracle on AWS RDS

The score assigned to each feature (eg: cost effectiveness) is weighted based on how important the feature is to my firm/project. For example we give a high weight to OLAP features and cost effectiveness, and a low weight to OLTP features. Our intention is to build a data warehouse, preferably on AWS cloud.

All the five products studied runs on AWS. Aurora and Redshift are AWS products. Snowflake is a managed warehouse built on AWS S3 and EC2 clusters. For Oracle, I used AWS RDS where Oracle license is provided by Amazon. I did not test any of these products for the purpose of this evaluation.
